Literature, Poetry, and the Argentinian Embassy

Sziasztok from room 753!
(Abigail, Lauren, Missy, and Ella)

This Tuesday in Budapest began as usual. We headed to our classroom for math in the morning, and found a light dusting of snow on the ground. It wasn't close to Minnesota snow, but brought us a bit closer to January at St. Olaf. Here's a picture of the snow right outside our classroom.

We spent our morning learning about congruence and got to see this complicated and important proof from Michael. (see above)

After class, Missy went to the box during our lunch break, and got to eat some square donuts.

In the afternoon, we got to hear from Arato Laszlo, a professor of Hungarian Literature. He presented on Hungarian literature, culture, and mentality. From the Hungarian National Anthem to a renowned Hungarian author who won the Nobel prize, to one minute short stories, we got to see the connections between literature and culture in Hungary.

After class, Missy studied for our upcoming midterm with some classmates, as well as went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner.

Meanwhile, Abigail, Lauren, and Ella met with our Hungarian instructor and friend Emese to talk about Hungarian poetry. Our task: find a poem (entirely in Hungarian), learn how to recite it, and have it ready to present to the class by the end of our time in Budapest.
(we'll let you know how it goes 😬)

These three then headed out to eat dinner at Bellazzo, an Italian restaurant.
The pizza was finom (Hungarian for delicious), and definitely better than the caf.

After dinner they went on an adventure through Pest where they passed many
cool buildings, including the Argentinian Embassy (below left).

The adventure ended with several failed attempts to get gelato, but we were able to find some vegan chocolate cake instead.

Now it's off to relaxing and studying for our midterm.

Jó éjszakát!
