Sziasztok!
Writing today are Haley, Synneva, Audrey, and Amy. Welcome to our fourth full day in Budapest!
Amy and Audrey started the day off with a walk at sunrise. We crossed the Danube to the Buda side of the city for some beautiful views! The river reflected the pink sunrise and the rolling hills perfectly framed our view of the city.
We used our city transport passes to get to the university where we had our second day of classes! Our fabulous teacher Emese taught us how to count to one million in Hungarian and also had us study the poem “Olvadás” about dripping icicles.
Haley, Synneva, and friends went to a small cafe, “The Goat Herder”, for lunch. We enjoyed the quaint establishment and loved the absolute mountain of avocado Haley got on her Avocado toast (see image below). Amy and Audrey went to a bakery with another small group of students (where they both enjoyed croissants “about the size of a small football”). After chatting for about an hour, the group headed back to the classroom to start in on the math lesson for that afternoon.
The math lesson consisted of new concepts surrounding numbers and their theories. We worked with theorems including the RPT (Relatively Prime Theorem) and the LCGCDT (Linear Combination Greatest Common Divisor Theorem). It was a good day! However, it was “pretty proof-y.” The two and a half hours of math today passed incredibly quickly. Then, onto the next adventure!
We had the opportunity to tour around a small portion of the 7th district, called “Csikago,” near to where our classroom is located. We began with a short walk down the street, “snuck in” to a local apartment complex to see what a typical building arrangement would be like in this district (don’t worry, we had permission to sneak). We continued to a small museum showing the work of Hungarian stained-glass artist Róth Miksa.
Then, the whole group headed to City Park and went ice skating! Some struggled more than others, but everyone had a good time. Check out those classy skates! (Pictured L to R: Audrey, Amy, Haley, Synneva).
We all ended the evenings with dinner in various places around the 5th district of Budapest, ranging from Synneva’s dinner with a small group of students and professors at a traditional Hungarian restaurant, Haley, Audrey & friends at La Lucia, and Amy & friends at Meatology. It was a fantastic evening, and we are so ready for many more fabulous days in Budapest!
